Dick
Gregory, father of 10 was born in St. Louis, Missouri in
1932. He has long been in tune with the pulse of two of the world’s
greatest dilemmas today, human rights and health. He earned a track
scholarship to Southern Illinois University where in also joined
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. His college career was interrupted
when the U.S. Army came calling. The service launched Gregory’s
show buiness career by winning numerous Army talent competitions.
After completeing his two year duty, Mr. Gregory worked for the
postal service and continued refining his stand up act in small
venues until he was noticed by Hugh Hefner in 1961.
Gregory’s
social consciousness to advocate for human needs can be traced back
to childhood. He led a march protesting the segregation of schools
when he was attending Sumner High School in St. Louis. Motivated
by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the work of the Student Nonviolent
Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Gregory became an active and visible
member of the Civil Rights Movement.
In
1973, Gregory developed an interest in vegetarianism and became
a nutritional consultant. In 1984 he founded Health Enterprises,
Inc., a company that distributed weight loss products. In 1987 he
co-founded the Slim-Safe Bahamian Diet, a powdered diet mix, which
was ahead of its time.

Gregory
was diagnosed with a rare form of Cancer in 2001. He refused traditional
medical treatment such as chemotherapy and along with additional
experts of alternative health developed a unique prescription of
diet, vitamins, exercise, and modern devices newly discovered which
has resulted in his reversing the trend of the Cancer to the point
where today he is 100% Cancer free.
Dick
Gregory a “Giant” in comedy where he and other Black
comedians took a stand in the 1960’s to discard minstrel stereotyping
and chose social satire pulling from current events.
A
“Giant” in civil and human rights who has fasted for
human rights over 60 times.
A
“Giant” in preventive health and defeater of Cancer
and provider of hope for millions to do the same.
